2004 - Where It All Began

Kids Spot, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Susan Johnson and Teresa Maloney with a simple but powerful vision: create a positive, high-energy environment where kids could learn, grow, and build confidence through movement. Starting from scratch in the Roscoe Village Center, Kids Spot quickly became a place families could call home.

2005 - Growing into Something Bigger

Just one year later, it was clear the community needed more. Kids Spot relocated to a larger facility across the street at 11447 N. 2nd Street in Roscoe, allowing for expanded programming and increased enrollment.

2006 - Adding Turning Pointe Dance Company

In 2006, Turning Pointe Dance Company was born. Dance was a missing piece that the community needed.

2011 - Planting Roots

As the program continued to grow, Kids Spot made another big move, this time to its current home at 9461 N. 2nd Street. This marked a major milestone, providing the space needed to build stronger programs, better training environments, and a lasting presence in the community.

2014 - Expanding Opportunities

With continued growth came new opportunities. In 2014, Kids Spot began leasing additional space at 9135 N. 2nd Street to grow its All-Star Cheerleading program. That space has since evolved into a shared training area for Cheer, Gymnastics, and Tumbling Team programs, supporting athletes at all levels.

2021 - A New Chapter

In June of 2021, Kids Spot entered a new chapter under the ownership of Tim Yapp. With a strong commitment to preserving the values the program was built on while continuing to grow and evolve, the focus remained the same: putting kids and families first and continuing to be a cornerstone of the Roscoe/Rockton community.

2025 - Growing the Family

In 2025, Kids Spot expanded in a big way, acquiring Wight Tumbling Academy and welcoming their athletes and families into the Roscoe location. That same year, Kids Spot also acquired J&J Dance and Tumbling in Pecatonica, expanding its reach and continuing its mission in a new community while maintaining operations at that location.

Today - More Than a Gym

Today, Kids Spot serves well over 1,000 enrollments with a team of approximately 75 dedicated staff members. What started as a small local program has grown into a thriving, multi-program facility offering gymnastics, dance, cheerleading, tumbling ninja and so much more! At its core, Kids Spot is still about the same thing it was in 2004:
a place where kids gain confidence, build friendships, and discover what they are capable of.
